The action of the series "The Living and the Dead" takes place at the end of the XIX century on the English land. Nathan Elpbi is a common resident of England who works on the land and raises cattle. However, Nathan has an idea that life after death does really exist. This thought follows the major hero day or night. He literally lives by it and does not want to hear anything as for its refutation. The main hero is concerned to find at least some evidence of confirmation of the mystical hypothesis. And though his efforts do not bring any results, the guy is not going to give up. His fanaticism brings him nothing but trouble, and now not only marriage, but also the financial affairs fall under threat. The man by himself is about to go mad.
